Program Description
Event Details
Through photography and words, take a step back and look at a moment in United States history where immense civil unrest takes place during the worst global pandemic in recent time. This exhibition brings further awareness to the continued inequalities and treatment of Black people in the U.S. by showing those who have put their lives at risk during this unprecedented time. The images presented, from May & June 2020, document the George Floyd March in Newark, the Black Lives Matter March in Scotch Plains, the Edison March Against Injustice, and the Plainfield Anti-Violence Protest.
During this exhibit opening, photographer Kalani Jimenez-Mackson will present a lecture on the importance of photojournalism and its ability to control our narratives with the truth. Photojournalism techniques, philosophy, and process will be the main topics in this exploration of image and photography.
This is a free program. Registration is not required. The exhibit will from August 13th to October 8th.
This project is funded, in part, by 2022 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners.
